Identity Proofing

Before you can apply a CROMERR-grade e-signature, you must complete identity proofing. This is a one-time process.

How It Works

  1. Navigate to Settings → Identity Proofing or click the prompt when attempting your first signature.
  2. Enter your legal name, date of birth, and the last four digits of your SSN.
  3. Answer a series of knowledge-based authentication (KBA) questions generated from public records (e.g., "Which of these addresses have you lived at?").
  4. You must answer all questions correctly within the time limit.
  5. Upon success, your account is marked as identity-proofed.

What If I Fail?

You have up to 3 attempts per 24-hour period. If you fail all attempts, contact support for alternative identity verification options.

Privacy

SmartComply does not store your SSN or KBA answers. The identity proofing process is handled through a certified third-party provider, and only the proofing result (pass/fail) and timestamp are stored.
