Backflow FAQ
How often do assemblies need to be tested?
Most jurisdictions require annual testing of all backflow prevention assemblies. Your state template pre-configures the correct interval. Check Settings → Backflow → Rules to verify or customize.
What happens when a test fails?
A failed test automatically sets a retest deadline (typically 30 days). The assembly owner receives a notice, and the assembly status changes to "Failed" until a passing retest is recorded.
Can testers submit results themselves?
Yes. Enable Portal Access on a tester's profile so they can log in to the External Tester Portal and submit results electronically. Submissions go through the same validation rules.
How do I track tester certifications?
Go to Backflow → Testers. Each tester record shows their certification number, certifying body, and expiration date. Testers with expired certifications are blocked from submitting results.
Can I customize notice templates?
Yes. Navigate to Settings → Backflow → Notice Templates to edit the content, timing, and delivery method for each notice type. Templates support merge fields for facility name, assembly details, and dates.
How do I import existing assembly data?
Go to Import → New Import, upload a CSV or Excel file, and map columns to SmartComply fields. The AI mapper handles most formats automatically.
